Privacy Policy — Five Lights

Five Lights ("we", "us") helps people see themselves more clearly. We take privacy seriously and collect as little as we can. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the control you have over it.

Who we are. Five Lights is an independent product operated by its founder. Questions or requests: [email protected].

What we collect

Birth details you enter into the free type calculator — your birth date, birth time (optional), and birth city. These are used to calculate your Five Lights type.
Your result — the light and Human Design type our engine calculates from those details.
Your email address — only if you choose to join the waitlist.
Basic usage analytics — anonymous, cookieless page-view data (via Plausible). No cross-site tracking, no advertising profiles, no cookies for tracking.

We do not ask for your name, and we do not store your birth details together with your email. The improvement dataset (birth details + result) is kept separately from any email you give us.

Why we use it, and our legal basis

With your consent (the checkbox you tick before calculating your type), we use your birth details and result to:

Provide the service — calculate and show you your Five Lights type.
Improve the service — study patterns across submissions to make our readings and product better.

If you join the waitlist, we use your email to tell you when Five Lights products launch and to send related updates. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email.

Where your data lives and how we protect it

Birth details and results are stored in a secured database (Supabase). Access is restricted to server-side keys that are never exposed in your browser.
All data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS).
Emails are held by our email provider (Brevo) so we can contact the waitlist.
We minimise what we keep and never sell your data to anyone.

How long we keep it

Waitlist emails: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.
Birth details + results (improvement dataset): kept for as long as needed to improve the product; you can request deletion (see below).

Who we share it with

We use a small set of trusted providers ("subprocessors") to run Five Lights. They process data only on our behalf:

Supabase — secure database storage.
Brevo — waitlist email delivery.
Cloudflare — website hosting and delivery.
Render — the calculation service.
Plausible — privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it for advertising.

Your rights

You can, at any time:

Access the data we hold about you.
Delete it — email us and we'll remove it.
Withdraw consent or unsubscribe from emails.

Depending on where you live (e.g. the EU/UK under GDPR, or Canada under PIPEDA), you may have additional rights, including the right to complain to your local data protection authority. To exercise any right, email [email protected].

International transfers

Our providers may process data in countries outside your own. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for those transfers.

Children

Five Lights is not intended for anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has given us their information, contact us and we will delete it.

A note on what Five Lights is

Five Lights is a tool for self-reflection, built on real astronomy and the Human Design system's typing method. It is not fortune-telling, and it is not medical, psychological, legal, or financial advice. It's a mirror, not a verdict.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Five Lights grows. We'll post the new version here and update the date at the top.
